I Won't Wait is a feature film telling the story of a heartbroken insomniac and a has-been boxer grappling with the lack of closure from their pasts as they revitalize an underground boxing club in their college in an attempt to cope. It deals with themes of lost identity, broken relationships, sibling tensions, and centrally, the idea of never receiving closure.
Story Overview and My Work
>WROTE the 95 page screenplay, including 4 original songs, 3 of which I co-wrote.
>COLLABORATED on the PLOT STRUCTURE and STORY BEATS of the story, wherein we wrote the first 3 scenes together, while I primarily worked on the rest of the script.
>With this story, I wanted to ask: what do you do when you can't find closure? To explore this question, our protagonists, Abir the heartbroken insomniac and Ron the has-been boxer came to be.
>In order to make the central themes of the plot and the characters congruent, we established a world where a fight club already had existed in the setting before, with our main protagonists working to revitalize it in the college. This solved the problem of our characters seemingly existing separately from the world. Now, they were affected by the world around them and in turn, they sought to affect it in return.
>Abir seeks closure from the ugly end his relationship faced, while Ron seeks it from the identity that was ripped away from him. The latter, not able to cope with the fact that he cannot box after a brutal injury, turns to revitalizing an underground boxing club his accomplished older brother ran in the college, in an effort to show him that he is as good at the sport as him.
>The movie culminates in an emotional climax where both characters realize that instead of facing their core problems head-on, they both have been diverting themselves to the fight club, as they wait for closure. In the face of this realization, they are faced with a choice: to keep waiting... or to make their own closure.
